Growing up I had a framed photo of a basketball "swishing" through a net with the quote, "you're either in or you're out, there's no such thing as life in between."

I loved basketball when I was a kid. Loved the photo. Loved the quote. The photo stayed on the wall for years and the quote still sticks with me.   
  
It's a good reminder. Whatever you're approaching in life: a career, a relationship, a round of golf – don't move it forward unless you're all the way in. Be wise enough to know if you're hearts not really in something before you face it head on. 

I've come to think that knowing if you're in or out is a real skill. It can help keep you focused on what's most important in your life. What are your goals? Are you in or out on them?
